Gangtey Trek

Day 01 :

Gangtey – Gogona. Approx. 15 Kms. 6 – 7 hours.

Leaving the valley at 2830m, the trail leads south, then towards the west through the fields and meadows and gradually climbs through the mixed forest of rhododendron, magnolia, junipers and bamboo till the Tsele-La (pass) at 3440m. After the pass, crossing several meadows and through the forest, it is a short climb to the Camp site. The camp is at a hilltop overlooking the beautiful long valley of Gogona.
O/N Camp. Altitude 3100m.
Day 02 :

Gogona – Khothakha

The trail winds up gently up above the village of Gogona through the fields and climbs through forest of fir, oak, dwarf bamboo, cypress and juniper. You would also see a lot of Daphne, the plant used for making the traditional Bhutanese paper.
A long and gradual climb leads you to Shobju-la at an altitude of 3410m, then descend through the forest, criss-crossing a small stream and eventually meet the rough track used for tractors to collect wood from the forest. Following the track with a few short cuts through the woods and you reach to Chorten Karpo (Stupa). The camp for the night is beside a forest of blue pines overlooking the village of Khothakha which, comprises of about 60 houses. O/N Camp. Altitude, 2790m.
Day 03 :

Khothakha – Tikki Zampa

A short, steep climb along a well worn path leads you to Tashi-la (2800m) where, the can also get a ride on the cable car provided, that it has been pre-arranged and that the passengers are upper terminus of the “Cable car’ is. This is used for transporting wood down to Chuzomsa (1300m). NOTE: Visitors travelling by the rope will be at their own risk. It is a nice walk down through beautiful forest, wheat fields, through a cluster of houses at Wachay and finally the trail meets the road at Tikki Zampa.
