Drive upto Drugyel Dzong where the road ends and the trek begins, following the river gently uphill through a narrow agricultural valley passing by village houses. Overnight camp. (Alt. 2800m).

Continue up following the river valley. It narrows and closes in and the trail winds up and down the drainage. Upon arrival at Thangthangka, one gets a clear view of the Mt. Jumolhari. Overnight camp.

Continue uphill and pass a small army post where the valley begins to widen again. Now views of high ridges and the snow-capped peaks can be seen all around. You will see Yak herders and their winter homes. Overnight camp at the base of Mt. Jumolhari. (Alt. 4040m).

Wide Yak pastures on the way up and down the pass, possibly encounter some nomads in their Yak tents depending on the time of the year you are there. Great views of Lingshi Dzong (District Administration Headquarter for Lingshi) as you come down into Lingshi basin. Mt.Tserim gang and its descending glaciers at the north end of the valley. Overnight camp. Alt. 4150m).

The trail ascends up to the Yalila Pass, 4820m. From the pass Mt. Jumolhari, Tserim gang and Masagang can be seen on clear days. Then descend for a while. Overnight camp, Alt. 3963m.

Follow the Thim-chu (Thimphu river) through the forest with scenic beauty of water fall, as it narrows and closes in, the trail winds up and down along the drainage. Ascending up to the ruins of Barshong Dzong. Overnight camp just below the ruined fortress. Alt. 3785m.
